Popular Cheesesteak Eatery Opens New Location In Newtown Square

Founded in Philly, the restaurants tout a 'modern twist' to cheesesteak tradition.

NEWTOWN SQUARE, PA — A Philly eatery touting a "modern twist" on traditional cheesesteaks has reached the suburbs, with a second location now open in Newtown Square.

Established in 2016, Cleavers was founded by a brother and sister whose family has owned an operated a cheesesteak-manufacturing company. The siblings sought to bring a new twist on the city's best-known delicacy at the Center City restaurant.

Cleavers recently opened a second location — at 103 Squire Dr., Newtown Square.

The Cleavers brand touts a unique approach to cheesesteaks, preparing meat with a "chop" technique that infuses the ribeye with the flavors of the other sandwich ingredients.

Signature items also include "boozy shakes" and unique fixtures like "Papa's favorite steak" — an oven-toasted ribeye cheesesteak with shredded mozzarella, fried onions and pizza sauce.
