• Mars district, teacher's union approaching contract expiration (butlereagle.com) — Mars Area School District and its teachers’ union are still far apart on a new contract, with health insurance costs and salary increases as the biggest sticking points before the June 30 expiration. Negotiators are trading three- versus five-year proposals while the board has approved a $69.79 million budget, and both sides say they want a deal before school starts.
   

• Singleton takes helm of ‘spectacular' Quality EMS (butlereagle.com) — Residents in Mars are served by Quality EMS, which has just promoted longtime paramedic Keith Singleton to executive director. He plans to build on advanced heart-attack and sepsis treatments, crediting Mars and neighboring municipalities for funding that keeps multiple ambulances staffed and high-level care available every day.
   

• Police reports as of June 9 (butlereagle.com) — A recent regional police blotter includes a DUI charge against a 72-year-old Mars resident following a May 3 traffic stop, along with several other incidents across Butler County. The report lists allegations such as DUI, drug possession, theft, and disorderly conduct that are now moving through local courts.
