Months Of Highway Closures Begin Soon In Delco; Backups Expected

There will be lane closures in both directions on weekday mornings.

UPPER CHICHESTER TOWNSHIP, PA — Drivers traveling along Conchester Highway in Delaware County should prepare for two months of weekday lane closures as construction continues on a $63.4 million highway-improvement project, according to PennDOT.

Starting Monday, median and utility construction will take place along Conchester Highway (Route 322) and Bethel Avenue through Dec. 21.

Drivers should allow for extra time and expect backups and delays, PennDOT said.

The construction is part of a $63.4 million project to replace the U.S. 322 bridge over the CSX Railroad and improve a one-mile stretch of Conchester Highway, including adjacent Bethel Road.

This is one of four phases in PennDOT's U.S. 322 Improvement program to improve travel and safety on a 6.7-mile stretch of the highway in Delco. The project began in 2017.
