Bucks Co. Demonstration Gardens Open Their Gates To Public

BUCKS COUNTY, PA — The Penn State Extension invites the community to explore the beauty and educational value of local demonstration gardens during its first-ever Demonstration Garden Open Days.

Each event will offer opportunities to connect directly with Master Gardeners and explore a variety of garden styles and educational themes at gardens in Quakertown, Doylestown, Lower Makefield, Newtown, and Bristol.

Visitors can enjoy: Seasonal gardening demonstrations, proven science-based advice, family-friendly activities and refreshments, and giveaways

“At our demonstration gardens, we showcase sustainable gardening practices using plants that thrive in Bucks County’s climate and soils with minimal maintenance,” said Ken Speers, Master Gardener and Open Day Committee Chair. “These gardens also demonstrate the important role plants play in supporting pollinators, managing stormwater, growing food, and creating welcoming community spaces.”

Saturday, July 25 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

• A "Be A Bee Phot Op" will enthrall kids of all ages at the Quakertown NatiPhotove Pollinator Garden at Fourth Street Park, 301 W. Mill Street, Quakertown 18951.
• A raised-bed veggie garden is supporting a local food pantry at the Quakertown Educational Community Garden, 670 S. Main Street, Quakertown 18951.
• A kid-friendly bird blind hidden in native plants, shrubs, and trees can be found at the Central Park Native Demonstration Garden, 425 Wells Road, Doylestown 18901.
• Seed saving and winter sowing for your own native plants is available at the Tyler State Park Native Garden, 101 Swamp Road, Newtown 18940.
• Bug Snug Habitat In A Pocket Park demos how to plant this-not-that at the Lower Makefield Native Plant Demonstration Garden, 1100 Edgewood Road, Yardley 19067
• Teaching garden gives away hundreds of pounds of veggies to community food bank at Adams Hollow Community Garden, 591 Jefferson Ave, Bristol 19007

Saturday, September 12 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

• A garden to engage the senses — sight, smell, hearing, and touch at the Sensory Garden at the Middletown Grange, 576 Penns Park Road, Newtown 18940.
• Pollinator-friendly plants, herbs, and cutting gardens at the Garden at the Middletown Grange, 576 Penns Park Road, Newtown 18940.

Cost: All events are free and open to the public. Whether you’re a beginner gardener or a seasoned grower, the Demonstration Garden Open Days inspire practical knowledge and a chance to connect with your community.
