NEWTOWN, PA — ArtWRKD presents "The Ideology of Revolution," a dynamic group exhibition through August 9 at its South State Street gallery.

Coinciding with the nation's Semiquincentennial, the exhibit begins with a simple premise: every revolution begins first as an idea.

Long before governments fall, borders shift, or history records moments of upheaval, there exists a belief — a vision that imagines the world differently. Revolutions are born from ideas of liberty, equality, justice, autonomy, and human dignity. They emerge through imagination before action, challenging inherited systems while proposing new ways of living together.

Rather than commemorating revolution as a singular historical event, the exhibition examines revolution as an evolving ideology — one continually tested, redefined, and reimagined across generations.

From the American Revolution to contemporary movements for social justice, artists explore the enduring questions that continue to shape a collective future.

What does freedom truly mean? Who defines equality? When does resistance become responsibility? And how do revolutionary ideals survive once they become institutions themselves?

Working across painting, sculpture, photography, fiber, mixed media, installation, and conceptual practices, the exhibiting artists investigate collective power, civic responsibility,
identity, resistance to authority, and the enduring tension between utopian vision and lived reality. Together, these works reveal that revolution is not merely political — it is cultural, personal, creative, and deeply human.

Featured artists include: Cay Maria Adams, Francisco Aguilar, Lake Angela, George Apotsos, Rhonda Babb, Stephanie Borkowski, Charles Browning, Kat Collins, Paul Deery, Elise Dodeles, Leigh Ferello, Tracy Fitzgerald, Mia Fabrizio, Peter Trout Gard, Margaret Koval, Race Kuhn, Constance McBride, Michael E. Mirsch, Jason Moss, Michael Palladino, Michael V.
Pascucci, John Slavin, and Katie Truk.

"Art has always been one of humanity's first acts of revolution," says Ashara Shapiro, Founder and Curator of ArtWRKD. "Before policies change, before movements organize, before history is written, artists imagine different futures. The Ideology of Revolution asks us to consider not
simply the revolutions that have shaped our past, but the ideas that continue to shape who we are becoming. It is an invitation to embrace complexity, question certainty, and recognize that
transformation often begins with the courage to imagine something different."

As with every ArtWRKD exhibition, "The Ideology of Revolution" is conceived as both an exhibition and a gathering place — where contemporary art becomes a catalyst for dialogue, reflection, and community. Rather than presenting fixed conclusions, the exhibition creates space for multiple perspectives, reminding us that the most enduring revolutions are often those that begin quietly: with a question, an act of imagination, or a work of art.

The Ideology of Revolution is open through August 9 at the ArtWRKD gallery, 128 South State Street, Newtown. Gallery hours are Wednesday, 12 to 6 p.m., Thursday and Friday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
