Beloved Elmwood Park Zoo Animal Dies
At 23 years old, she was one of the zoo's longest tenured residents.

NORRISTOWN, PA — A beloved American bison and lifelong resident of Elmwood Park Zoo, Wendy, has died at the age of 23, the zoo announced.
Wendy was euthanized by her care team Friday morning after a period of declining health and close analysis by veterinarians, who considered her quality of life.
Wendy was born at Elmwood on May 12, 2003, making her one of the longest tenured animals in the entire zoo.

"For more than two decades, she was a familiar face to generations of guests and a deeply loved member of our Zoo family," the zoo said.
Bison's average lifespan ranges from 15 to 20 years, so Wendy's health was exceptional.

Wnedy's mother, Dakota, father, Tatonka, and sister, Francis all lived out their lives at Elmwood as well.
"We know Wendy held a special place in the hearts of so many of our guests, staff, volunteers and everyone who had the opportunity to know her over the years," the zoo added. "We are incredibly grateful to the dedicated keepers and veterinary staff who cared for Wendy throughout her long life. She will be deeply missed."
