NORRISTOWN, PA — A special ceremony was held in Norristown on Tuesday as the Pride Flag was raised over Montgomery County Courthouse.

The event signals the start of Pride Month and related celebrations.

Another flag raising will be held Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. at Ambler Borough Hall. That event will feature Philly Pride 365's massive 1,000-foot Pride Flag.

June 1 is the 55th anniversary of the Stonewall riots, which took place in New York in June 1969 and are widely seen as a catalyst for the LGBTQ movement.
