📰 News we're reading

• Cyclist struck in North Philadelphia hit-and-run; witnesses say police never came (nbcphiladelphia.com) — A cyclist was seriously hurt in a hit-and-run on Broad Street in North Philadelphia early Sunday, just steps from Jefferson Einstein Philadelphia Hospital, and witnesses say police never showed despite repeated 911 calls. An ambulance arrived within about 10 minutes and took the alert but injured rider for treatment, while Philadelphia police now say they're investigating and searching for an orange or burgundy car that fled.

• 3 wounded in pair of North Philadelphia shootings, police say (metrophiladelphia.com) — Three people were wounded in two separate shootings late Saturday and early Sunday in North Philadelphia, including incidents near Spring Garden Street and just west of Temple University's main campus. All victims are expected to survive, and police are seeking suspects described in detail. Residents are urged to share tips anonymously and can access local counseling and victim-support resources for anyone affected by gun violence.

• Tight competition: the contest to name Philly's best parallel parker (bostonglobe.com) — Philadelphia drivers just put their parallel parking pride to the test in a quirky competition run by the self-styled Philadelphia Parallel Parking Association. Out of more than 900 applicants, 15 locals battled through tight spaces and simulated city chaos, with illustrator Mario Zucca ultimately crowned champion and awarded a $76 prize, matching a typical Philadelphia parking ticket, plus a curb-piece trophy.
