2 More Bodies Found In Mon River After Deadly Western PA Boat Crash

GREENE COUNTY, PA — Two bodies were recovered from the Monongahela River Tuesday following a deadly collision between two boats on the Monongahela River in Rices Landing.

Three people now are dead from the crash. One person remains hospitalized, while another remains missing.

According to the Luzerne Township Volunteer Fire Company, on Sunday night a towboat pushing five large empty jumbo barges upstream collided with a cabin cruiser pleasure boat carrying five adults.

Two people on the pleasure boat were rescued by personnel aboard the towboat. Both were taken to area hospitals where one of them, a woman, later died. The condition of the other person is unknown.

None of the names of the people who were aboard the pleasure boat have been released.

The Murrysville Medic One Dive Team stated in a social media post Tuesday that its divers assisted with rigging the heavily damaged pleasure boat for removal by crane from the river.

After the boat was recovered, its marine operators conducted systematic sonar grid searches of the surrounding area. Crews also worked along cadaver K-9 teams, with divers searching identified areas of interest.
