2 Pittsburgh-Area School District Coaches Die In Fiery Crash

BUTLER COUNTY, PA — The two men who died Saturday in a fiery crash in Penn Township were Seneca Valley School District youth coaches.

Garrett Griffin, 45, and Cody Huffman, 38, of Harmony both died when the vehicle in which they were riding stuck a tree and caught fire.

The Butler County Coroner's office told WPXI-TV that Huffman suffered blunt force trauma injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Griffin was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Seneca Valley Raiders Baseball paid tribute to the two men in a Facebook post.

"Cody Huffman and Garrett Griffin.Cody and Garrett were much more than coaches. They were devoted husbands, loving fathers, mentors, and role models who made a lasting difference in the lives of countless young athletes," the post stated.

"We extend our heartfelt condolences to both families and all those who knew and loved them. During this incredibly difficult time, we ask our community to keep them in your thoughts and prayers and to continue surrounding them with love and support in the days and months ahead."

GoFundMe pages have been established to aid the families of both men.

"Garrett’s greatest joy in life was his family. He loved his children deeply and worked hard to provide them with every opportunity to learn, grow, and pursue their dreams," Griffin's page states. "While nothing can replace the love, guidance, and presence of their father, we hope to honor Garrett by helping secure the future he always wanted for them."

Huffman's page states: "Cody was larger than life—always smiling, caring deeply for everyone around him, and actively involved in local youth baseball and football.

"He was an amazing friend to many, always ready to lend a hand or share a laugh. Cody’s warmth and generosity touched so many lives, and his absence is felt by all who knew him."
