2 Tornadoes Confirmed In Pittsburgh Area
Two twisters touched down in the Pittsburgh area during a bout of severe storms on Sunday. Get the details here.
PITTSBURGH, PA — Two tornadoes touched down in Western Pennsylvania as a swath of severe storms moved through the region on Sunday.
The National Weather Service said the two twisters are the 29th and 30th twisters in the county since 1880.
The first, near the western portion of the north shore of the Moraine State Park lake, was rated an EF1. That means it had maximum wind speeds between 86 and 110 mph.

The second twister occurred between Muddy Creek Drive near the intersection with Route 8. It's been rated an EF0, with winds between 60 and 85 mph.
No deaths or injuries were reported as a result of the tornadoes, but considerable property damage took place. The weather service said more information will be forthcoming as its investigation continues.

The last tornadoes in Butler County occurred in May 2025, when two EF0 twisters touched down.
