Consumer Alert Issued For Pittsburgh Eatery

The Allegheny County Health Department discovered some unappetizing things while inspecting this Pittsburgh restaurant.

PITTSBURGH, PA — The Allegheny County Health Department has issued a consumer alert for Caribbean Food Snacks, on Stratmore Avenue in Crafton Heights, for multiple food code violations.

An inspection on Thursday turned up a freshly dead mouse in the kitchen beside the stove and cooler.

Too many to count mouse droppings were found in the handsink basin,inside a coffee mug stored on a dish storage rack, underneath a three-compartment sink and behind the food prep table.

Fresh rat droppings were found in the back room.

Rodent rub marks were observed on plumbing and walls behind a flat top grill.

More than five small flies were seen in the kitchen and a back hallway.

Multiple food contact surfaces and non food contact surfaces of cooking and food preparation equipment were soiled, including an air fryer, countertop deep fryer, mortar and pestle, plates, cutting boards, table, and other items.

Cooked rice being hot held on electric stove only measured 76 degrees. The food was supposed to be maintained at a minimum temperature of 135 degrees.

A kitchen hand sink was blocked by soiled dishes and lacked hand soap and paper towels.

The eatery lacks a publicly available restroom.

For the consumer alert to be removed, the rodent issues must be corrected, ventilation violations must be fixed, stove and fryers must be removed from the restaurant and grease cooking has to stop.
