Consumer Alert Issued For Well-Known Pittsburgh Restaurant

PITTSBURGH, PA — The Allegheny County Health department has issued a consumer alert for Sichuan Gourmet, on Murray Avenue in Squirrel Hill, for numerous food code violations.
During an Oct. 8 inspection, four dead baby mice and one dead dead juvenile were found on the floor near the wok line.
There were glue traps underneath the decommissioned deli slicer observed along with a few mouse droppings.

There were too many to count fresh mouse droppings in the following areas: within the fryer cabinets, under the three-compartment sink and around grease trap, under shelves in the dry storage closet, under table at the kitchen entry, around water heaters and under the shelves next to heaters, on the floor of the front of house storage closet and on the floor of the beverage preparation area.
Fifteen to 20 mouse droppings each were found in every booth in the dining room, on bottom shelf of a plastic rolling cart next to dry storage closet, under dishwasher and under the shelves next to the dishwasher.

Mouse droppings also were found on shelves under the deli slicers and within the front counter cabinets.
There was a box of onions stored in the kitchen with fresh mouse droppings at the bottom. A box of shelled peanuts had chewed product and chewed bags within.
The yellow consumer alert placard is posted when a food facility has high or medium risk violations remaining or recurring. It is allowed to operate for 10 days before a re-inspection occurs. If the problems noted in the inspection report are not corrected, the health department can close the facility.
