Key Downtown Pittsburgh Street Getting Major Makeover (patch.com) — Downtown Pittsburgh's Smithfield Street is set for a sweeping, multi-year overhaul that will rebuild the roadway, widen sidewalks, add safety bump outs, and upgrade lighting and landscaping. The first phase, between Forbes and Sixth avenues, will take up to two years and preserve the existing transit-only lane, with later phases extending the improvements further through the heart of Downtown.

The recognition highlights the new terminal, strong airline partnerships, and investments in technology, sustainability, and passenger experience that aim to better connect Pittsburgh with destinations worldwide.
   

3. 2 Million Doses Of Fentanyl, Heroin Seized In Pittsburgh-Area Drug Busts (patch.com) — Law enforcement agencies seized nearly two million doses of fentanyl and heroin, dozens of illegal firearms, and cash in a sweeping operation targeting Pittsburgh's eastern suburbs. Pennsylvania's attorney general and multiple local, state, and federal partners say the coordinated effort aims to curb violent crime and drug trafficking that have been affecting Pittsburgh and surrounding communities.
   

4. Pittsburgh-Area School Cited By State For Rodent Droppings (patch.com) — Parents in the Pittsburgh region may be alarmed after state food safety inspectors found extensive mouse droppings throughout Robert W. Clark Elementary School in the Laurel Highlands School District. Fresh droppings were discovered in classrooms, the kitchen, and food storage areas, forcing staff to discard some contaminated products like cereal and granola.
   

5. Thousands of pet parents waiting for trial after allegations against Pittsburgh funeral director (cbsnews.com) — Pittsburgh pet owners are finally getting trial dates in a high‑profile case alleging a Hazelwood pet funeral home mishandled thousands of animals and defrauded grieving families. Jury selection is set for Oct. 15, with trial expected to begin Oct. 19, and the state attorney general says his office has been working the case from the start despite victims' frustration with delays.
