1. NFL Player, Former Local HS Player Arrested In Pittsburgh Area (patch.com) — NFL running back and former Woodland Hills standout Miles Sanders was arrested on DUI and careless driving charges in Churchill after police reportedly found him slumped in a stopped car on William Penn Highway. Officers say he failed field sobriety tests and had suspected marijuana products in the vehicle, leaving the Pittsburgh-area native facing charges as he remains unsigned for the 2026 season.
   

2. Popular Pittsburgh Restaurant To Close For Rebranding Effort (patch.com) — Pittsburgh-area diners will soon see big changes at Shorty's in The Waterfront, which is closing at the end of August for a month-long rebranding as Shorty's Social Kitchen. The Homestead location will overhaul its concept, menu, and standards, while the North Shore restaurant and other Legacy Hospitality spots in Downtown and Eastside remain unchanged.
   

3. New Coffee Shop & Tap House Coming To Pittsburgh Area (patch.com) — A new Après Roasters coffee shop and tap house is planned for Marshall Township's Innovation Ridge, bringing 15 to 20 jobs and an estimated $800,000 in annual economic impact to the Pittsburgh area. Located near I-79 and Route 19 with access to Knob Hill Park trails and a planned dog park, it's pitched as a long-term amenity for nearby businesses and residents.
   

4. New Measles Cases Reported Around Pittsburgh; Cases On Rise In PA (patch.com) — Rising measles cases are hitting the Pittsburgh region, with Allegheny, Westmoreland, Butler, and Indiana counties all reporting infections, including a case at UPMC Children's Hospital in Lawrenceville. Statewide, Pennsylvania has seen 424 cases and its first measles deaths in 35 years, though no fully vaccinated individuals have been infected.
   

5. One key Oakland bridge reopens while another could be closed into 2028 (pitt.edu) — If you drive through Oakland or Schenley Park, the Panther Hollow Bridge has finally reopened after nearly two years of safety repairs, restoring a key link between Oakland and the park. But the Charles Anderson Bridge, another major route into Oakland, will remain closed until at least 2028 as crews replace deteriorated steel and the entire bridge deck.
