Pittsburgh-Area Fast Food Eatery Cited By State

BUTLER, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture's Bureau of Food Safety has found the Dairy Queen in Benvan Square in Butler out of compliance with state food safety regulations.

During an inspection on Wednesday, food and debris with ant-like insects were observed on the dining room floor.

The clear plastic ice chute on the dining room surface had slime residue and was not clean to sight and touch.

Cheese cake bites and cookie dough bites were held at 47 degrees in the ice cream topping cooler rather than 41 degrees or below as required. The bites had to be discarded.

The ice cream toppings cooler had a temperature of 50 degrees rather than 41 degrees or below as required. An ice buildup was noted in the back interior area by fans, preventing the unit from properly defrosting.

The paper towel dispensers at the handwash sink in the kitchen and ice cream topping areas were empty.

Despite being ruled out of compliance, the Dairy Queen remains open.
