Pittsburgh Restaurant Ordered To Close

PITTSBURGH, PA — The Allegheny County Health Department has ordered the closure of Hunan Bar/Chuan Xiang Hui, on Atwood Street in Oakland, 10 days after issuing a consumer alert for the restaurant following an inspection.

A re-inspection on Monday found 30-40 fresh mouse droppings on storage hallway shelves and 5-10 fresh mouse droppings in the cabinet of the women's bathroom 15-20 old mouse droppings on the storage hallway floor.

Additionally, a bag of rice to-go containers had evidence of rodent chewmarks.

There were moths/caddisflies and evidence of feeding within a bag of peanuts in the dry storage room. The moths / caddisflies were affecting the dried black fungus stored in the same container as well.

Two raw chicken boxes stored on a prep table had a temperature of 54 degrees. A safe storage temperature is 41 degrees or below.

An employee was observed rinsing a green cutting board and knife, then immediately returning to cutting vegetables with no wash, sanitize or air dry step completed.

Soiled with old food residue were the deli slicer, backsplash guard, can opener blade, five peeler blades and four knives.

For the restaurant to reopen, it must remove remaining and new rodent droppings and disinfect all impacted areas; clean and sanitize all food-contact surfaces; acquire certified food protection manger certification for at least two food handlers; create implement and monitor a master cleaning schedule; and retrain all staff on proper handwashing/personal hygiene practices, cold holding, and sanitizing procedures.
