Pittsburgh Shopping Mall Marking Landmark Anniversary

ROSS TOWNSHIP, PA — You're invited to attend a big birthday bash on Saturday.

Ross Park Mall, which has grown from a standard regional shopping mall into what arguably is the Pittsburgh area's favorite upscale destination, turns 40.

Mall management is planning to commemorate the anniversary with a vibrant, carnival-inspired celebration featuring live entertainment, fashion, interactive experiences and a look back at four decades as a key component of the Pittsburgh retail community.

Attendees can also explore a 40-year retrospective timeline showcasing memorable milestones in Ross Park Mall’s history, capture photos at the “40 & Fabulous” interactive photo experience and enjoy anniversary offers from participating retailers.

The afternoon will feature performances from aerialists, dancers, music from a DJ, and a fashion showcase highlighting iconic trends from the past four decades.

The free, family friendly event will occur from 2 p.m.-5 p.m.

Ross Park opened on Aug. 15, 1986, as a fairly standard mall before gradually evolving to its present position as the Pittsburgh area's premier luxury shopping place. According to mall/fandom.com, the original anchors were JCPenney, Sears, Kaufmann’s, and Horne’s.

Only JCPenney remains today, and it occupies only one of the two floors that it originally did. Today, the anchors are Macy's, Nordstrom and Dick's House of Sport.

The mall is also home to high-end shopping destinations such as Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Tiffany & Co. and Burberry.
