Pittsburgh TV Station Fills Vacant Newscast Anchor Role

A Pittsburgh TV station has decided to permanently promote a person to one of its most important positions. Get the details here.

PITTSBURGH, PA —WPXI-TV has hired a familiar face as its new sports director.

The station announced that award-winning anchor Jenna Hanna, who has anchored WPXI-TV's coverage of the Steelers, Pirates and Penguins for the past six years.

She also has hosted the Jerome Bettis Show, Skylights high school football, The Final Word and numerous pre-and post -game shows.

The announcement comes nearly a year after former sports director Alby Oxenreiter said he would not be returning to his position after undergoing heart surgery.

In addition to Hanna's promotion, WPXI also has announced the hiring of Shelby Cassessee to a full-time position as a sports anchor and reporter. She has been working for the station in a part-time role.

“Jenna and Shelby are fantastic talents who care deeply about getting to the stories beyond the box scores,” WPXI vice president and general manager Kevin Hayes said.

“We are thrilled they will continue their careers here at WPXI, covering Pittsburgh’s great teams and athletes.”
