PITTSBURGH, PA — In a tradition that goes back decades, Friday is National Doughnut Day across the country. The celebration will include various places providing an opportunity to get a free doughnut.

Here's how:

  • Sheetz is offering one free doughnut with any food or beverage purchase of $5 or more from June 5-9. The offer is valid at all of Sheetz’s 830+ locations and can be redeemed by adding it under the OFFERZ tab on the Sheetz app. The offer is valid while the donuts are available and is limited to one per customer.
  • Dunkin' is providing a free doughnut with the purchase of any beverage on June 5.

According to the Salvation Army, National Doughnut Day was established in 1938 to pay homage to the "Doughnut Lassies." They were volunteers who brought comfort, critical supplies, and doughnuts to soldiers serving on the front lines of World War I.
