📰 News we're reading

1. Fox Chase Team Taking Part in Amy's Ride/Run/Walk Against Pancreatic Cancer (foxchase.org) — A major fundraising Ride/Run/Walk for pancreatic cancer is coming to The Park at 4th in Quakertown on Saturday, May 16, with bike rides, a 5K, and a family-friendly festival. Residents can join the Fox Chase Cancer Center team, bring pets, enjoy Arts Alive! entertainment, and support research and compassionate care programs through the Pancreatic Cancer Cure Foundation.

2. Felony charge dropped for teen in Quakertown protest case as others head toward trial (northpennnow.com) — A felony aggravated assault charge against one teen tied to February’s Quakertown student protest has been dropped, while several other juveniles still face misdemeanor cases moving toward trial. With one youth already on a probation deal and Chief Scott McElree on workers’ comp leave, remaining court dates are expected within the next month and will shape the protest’s legal fallout locally.

3. Quakertown Police cleared of wrongdoing during clash with student protesters (fox29.com) — Quakertown residents are learning that an outside panel found borough police acted within policy during February’s student-led anti-ICE protest, even though it acknowledged more force could have been justified. The report portrays Chief Scott McElree as a victim of a coordinated attack, but also admits he wasn’t clearly identifiable as an officer, recommending clearer markings for plainclothes police in future incidents.

4. SOFTBALL: Plymouth Whitemarsh handles Upper Moreland (pottsmerc.com subscription) — Quakertown softball fans may want to note that Plymouth Whitemarsh’s 7-1 win over Upper Moreland keeps PW tied with Quakertown and Upper Dublin atop the SOL Liberty Division.
