Missa Gaia: Earth Mass

Missa Gaia: Earth Mass

Event Details

Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church, 625 Montgomery Ave, Bryn Mawr, PA, 19010

Experience the inspiring and transformative power of Paul Winter’s "Missa Gaia: Earth Mass," a groundbreaking work that beautifully fuses jazz, world music, and the sounds of nature to celebrate creation, spirit, and ecological harmony. First composed in the late 1980s, Missa Gaia is widely regarded as a pioneering masterpiece of “ecological music,” blending traditional liturgical elements with vibrant improvisation and the natural voices of the Earth, such as whale songs and wolf calls.

Performed by the BMPC Sanctuary Choir alongside a brass ensemble and guest musicians, this evocative concert invites listeners on a spiritual journey that honors the sacredness of the planet and all living beings. The music is a call to awareness, stewardship, and joy in the interconnected web of life.

Following the concert, join us in the Court for a reception with refreshments and an opportunity to explore "Gaia: In Reverence to Earth," a curated exhibition of visual art by local artists exploring themes of environmental consciousness and the beauty and fragility of our world. Together, the concert and exhibition create a powerful, immersive experience that encourages reflection on our relationship with the Earth and our role as its caretakers.

This concert is free and open to the public.

Sunday, April 19 | 4:00 p.m. | BMPC Sanctuary
