The event will take place in the school gymnasium. The event is sponsored by the school's Parent-Teacher Organization.

The Day of Service calls for people to create Kindness Cards for local senior citizens and community heroes (EMTs, Firefighters, etc.). There will also be storytime, puzzles, and the coloring of a new mural for the school walls.

The Martin Luther King Day of Service started with the push for a federal holiday in recognition of the Civil Rights leader who was assassinated in 1968. The federal holiday was finally enacted in 1983.

The King Holiday and Service Act was signed into law by then-U.S. President Bill Clinton in 1994 to encourage people to find common causes and methods of improving their local communities.
