New Regional Rail Schedule Rolled Out By SEPTA

The new schedule went into effect on Sunday for commuters in the Philadelphia region.

PHILADELPHIA, PA — SEPTA has rolled out new regional rail schedules that will impact commuters in Lower Bucks County and eastern Montgomery County.

The new schedule went into effect on Sunday.

SEPTA said the new schedules include notable improvements that will translate to more predictable and reliable service, and greater capacity to major destinations.

As SEPTA continues to increase the number of train cars available for service, trains will be longer and provide more space for riders.

“Our crews are working hard to maintain our aging infrastructure and vehicles until they can be replaced,” said SEPTA General Manager Scott A. Sauer. “Last month, we reached a major milestone with 98 percent of Regional Rail train cars available for service, which means our riders are experiencing very minimal crowding and pass-up issues.”

Missed trips on Regional Rail were at 1 percent in May, down significantly from 7.5 percent last October, SEPTA said.

New Schedules Highlights include:

  • More cars and more space for riders
  • Riders will notice longer trains and more vehicles available, with more consistent four car sets on lines with the highest ridership.
  • More consistent line pairings to improve predictability and reliability
  • The new Regional Rail schedules include more consistent pairings between lines on different ends of the network. This makes the system easier to navigate and means that delays, when they occur, are less likely to have wide impacts.
  • More consistent express stops
  • Express service on the Lansdale/Doylestown Line and Media/Wawa Line has been simplified. That means an express train will always make the same stops. These changes allow for more predictable service.
  • More space between trains
  • Trains on the Wayne Junction to Glenside corridor have been adjusted to provide better spacing between trains. This helps prevent trains from bunching together, which can cause delays.
  • More capacity to Penn Medicine Station
  • Penn Medicine weekday trips increase from 900 to 975.

SEPTA updates its Regional Rail schedules four times per year to improve reliability and adjust for capital projects and infrastructure improvements.

Riders on all lines are encouraged to check the new schedules for updated departure and arrival times:
