Strong Storms, Tornado Possible Tuesday In Eastern PA

The National Weather Service is forecasting scattered storms that may bring damaging winds, hail, and a possible tornado on Tuesday night.

Severe thunderstorms, including the possibility of a tornado, could move through the region Tuesday afternoon and evening, according to the National Weather Service.

The storms are expected to follow hot, humid temperatures that have the heat index reaching near triple digits.

The timing of the biggest threat is between 5 p.m. Tuesday and midnight. Damaging winds, large hail, and a possible tornado are in the forecast. The agency advises residents to "remain alert for changing weather conditions this evening."

The heat index is expected to touch between well into the 90s and the low 100s, the weather service stated.

In addition to the threat for severe storms, localized rainfall rates of 1-2 inches per hour will be possible, with the risk for isolated instances of flash flooding.

The National Weather Service said there could be multiple days of scattered severe storms lasting into Thursday.

Here is the forecast for the next several days:

Tonight — Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before 3am. Some of the storms could be severe and produce heavy rainfall. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 70. The chance of precipitation is 60 percent.

Wednesday — A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 3 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 82 degrees. The chance of precipitation is 50 percent.

Wednesday Night — A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 69. The chance of precipitation is 70 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Thursday — Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 8 a.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 89. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 2 a.m.

Friday — Mostly sunny, with a high near 85.

Friday Night — Partly cloudy, with a low around 64.
