Bond Set For Rhode Island Sex Criminal On Run For More Than 20 Years

A convicted sex criminal captured after more than 20 years on the run appeared in court and had a bond set in one case but was ordered held without bail in the other.

A $20,000 surety bond was set for 70-year-old Ronald Fischer's bail jumping charge but he was ordered held without bail in his sexual assault case.

Fischer fled the state during his 2005 trial for first-degree sexual assault. He was subsequently found guilty in absentia and was also wanted on a warrant charging him with jumping bail.

Recently developed information led federal agents and Rhode Island State Police to New York in their hunt for Fischer, according to a media release from the marshals service.

"Investigators determined Fischer was operating a 56-foot sailing vessel, The Silver Lining, which was registered under the name Richard Graydon, an alias used by Fischer," the release said.

"Working from a U.S. Coast Guard 45-foot Response Boat, Deputy U.S. Marshals and U.S. Coast Guard personnel located and intercepted the vessel approximately one hour offshore," according to the release. "Fischer was taken into custody without incident."
