Rip Current Risk In Rhode Island

A dangerous rip current poses a risk to Rhode Island, the National Weather Service warned.

"Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water," the National Weather Service cautioned.

The rip current risk began Tuesday morning and was to last through the evening.

"Swim near a lifeguard," the National Weather Service advised.

"If caught in a rip current, relax and float," according to the National Weather Service statement.

"Don`t swim against the current,"the statement said. "If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help."
