Linford Fisher in Conversation with Vanessa Lillie, 6:30pm at Narragansett Library to discuss Fisher’s new book Stealing America: The Hidden Story of Indigenous Slavery in U.S. History, which not only uncovers a five-century genocidal history but also illuminates the myriad ways Native Americans have fought for their sovereignty and maintained community.

Linford D. Fisher is Associate Professor of History at Brown University and a specialist in early American and Native American history. He is the author of The Indian Great Awakening: Religion and the Shaping of Native Cultures in Early America, the co-author of two edited collections on Roger Williams, and has published a dozen academic essays. He is also the Principal Investigator of a tribal collaborative database project titled Stolen Relations: Recovering Stories of Indigenous Enslavement in the Americas.

Vanessa Lillie is the author of the thrillers The Bone Thief, Blood Sisters, Little Voices and For the Best. She also serves as a board member for the Tomaquag Museum in Exeter, RI. Originally from Oklahoma, Vanessa is a citizen of the Cherokee Nation.
