See the 54 RI students named National Merit semifinalists − and their schools (providencejournal.com) — Two Portsmouth schools are celebrating after students from Portsmouth Abbey and Portsmouth High were named National Merit Scholarship semifinalists among just 54 honorees statewide. These high-achieving seniors now move one step closer to competing for prestigious scholarships next spring, highlighting strong academic performance right here in town and across Rhode Island.

Child under 3 identified as fatal victim in Middletown car crash (newportri.com) — A high-speed police pursuit that began on West Main Road in Portsmouth early Thursday ended in Middletown with a fiery crash that killed a child under 3. Portsmouth and Middletown police say the driver faces DUI and driving-to-endanger charges, and investigators are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact them.
   

5. High school games were back in full force Tuesday. Here's the results (newportri.com) — Portsmouth High teams are back in action, with boys soccer narrowly falling 3-2 to La Salle and girls tennis scheduled to visit Tiverton.
