Warwick Water Search After Submerged SUV Spotted At Conimicut Point: Cops
The GMC Terrain was more than 50 feet from the shore, police said.
WARWICK, RI — Divers searched for bodies after a partially submerged SUV was spotted off Conimicut Point Friday night, police said.
Police officers and firefighter responded to Conimicut Point about 10:30 p.m. to investigate a report of a 2024 GMC Terrain with water up to its roof more than 5o feet from the shore, the Police Department said in a media release.
The terrain was between the point and the public boat ramp, according to the release.

"Emergency personnel immediately entered the water to inspect the vehicle and determine whether any occupants were inside. No occupants were located," the release said.
"The Warwick Fire Department subsequently deployed its marine unit, which conducted a search of the surrounding area using divers and sonar equipment," according to the release. "Again, no individuals were found."

The Terrain's registered owner was tracked down and is "cooperating with investigators," per the release.
"The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation," the release said.
