Masked Teen Carrying Gun Caught In Stolen Car: Cops (patch.com) — Woonsocket police arrested a 16-year-old after a Flock camera flagged a stolen car on South Main Street, leading officers to stop the vehicle Monday evening. The masked teen tried to run but was quickly caught, and officers say they found a firearm in his satchel. He now faces charges including possessing a stolen motor vehicle, firearm possession by a minor, and obstruction.
   

2. Woonsocket Council Advances Shelter Lease in 6-0 Vote (upriseri.com) — Woonsocket councilors have advanced, in a 6-0 first vote, a lease extension that could keep the city-owned homeless shelter at 181 Cumberland Street open past September 30, but the nonprofit operator says it cannot sign the lease as written. Councilors and agency leaders sparred over who should cover a funding gap, how to use state capital money and opioid settlement funds, and what happens to roughly 50 residents if no deal is reached before October 1.
   

3. Governor McKee, Infante-Green Announce 4th Consecutive Year of Declining Chronic Absenteeism Statewide, Resulting in 4.4 million Instructional Hours Recovered (ri.gov subscription) — Rhode Island leaders say chronic absenteeism has dropped for a fourth straight year, restoring an estimated 4.4 million instructional hours statewide. Woonsocket Middle School at Villa Nova and Woonsocket Middle School at Hamlet were singled out among the most improved middle schools, reflecting local gains as the Attendance Matters RI campaign heads into the 2026–27 school year.
   

4. Bodycam shows arrests after gun scare at Cranston bowling alley (turnto10.com) — Cranston police released bodycam video from a weekend gun scare at Lang's Bowlarama, where officers arrested multiple people after reports of a patron with a gun in a backpack. One of those arrested was a 19-year-old from Woonsocket, shown struggling with officers in the parking lot before being taken into custody. No injuries were reported, and the bowling alley's owners emphasized their long safety record and cooperation with the investigation.
