A recent highlight was the softball team producing both the 2026 valedictorian, Hadley Leonhardt, and salutatorian, Sierra Bendik, underscoring how extracurricular commitment and academics go hand in hand for local students.

Times publisher receives thanks - North Myrtle Beach Times (nmbtimes.com) — North Myrtle Beach’s own Yaupon Garden Club recently surprised North Myrtle Beach Times publisher Polly Lowman with a bouquet of locally grown flowers to thank her for consistently sharing their projects. Club members say the paper’s coverage helped their press book win first place from the Garden Club of America, highlighting how local media support can elevate community groups.

4. 'Grossly impaired before 9AM:' Woman sentenced in fatal DUI crash (wpde.com) — A Little River woman has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for a DUI crash that killed a motorcyclist while she was driving on Sea Mountain Highway in North Myrtle Beach. Prosecutors say she was nearly three times the legal alcohol limit and later admitted to heavy morning drinking, while also facing a separate federal case tied to a drug trafficking scheme.

Horry County Police Department to undergo full agency review (wmbfnews.com) — Horry County Police will undergo a full outside management review as scrutiny mounts over controversies, including a road-rage killing involving a North Myrtle Beach bar owner and questions about how that case was handled. The assessment, expected to take up to a year, aims to identify strengths, fix problems, and inform decisions about the department’s future structure and relationship with the sheriff’s office.
