Rock Hill mom watched doorbell camera as teen son was killed (heraldonline.com) — York County residents are following a high-profile Rock Hill case where a 21-year-old man is charged with murdering 18-year-old Felix Alvarez after a January house party, with prosecutors disputing the defense’s self-defense claim. In York County criminal court, the judge heard emotional testimony from Alvarez’s mother, who watched the shooting via doorbell camera, and is weighing whether to grant the defendant bail.
   

2. Dealer who had Lake Wylie fentanyl lab kept selling in jail. He's sentenced (heraldonline.com) — York County law enforcement and federal agents shut down a Lake Wylie fentanyl operation that led to what officials called the county’s largest-ever fentanyl seizure, and the final defendant has now received 25 years in federal prison. Authorities say the Rock Hill man continued arranging large drug deals from jail, underscoring the ongoing local impact of fentanyl on York County communities.
   

3. ICE agents spotted in York County (wsoctv.com) — Federal immigration agents have been seen conducting enforcement activity in York County, especially along I-77 and in Rock Hill, but local police say they aren’t involved and don’t know details. Residents are reporting stops of work vans and sightings near major corridors, while ICE has yet to explain its presence. Local officials emphasize immigration enforcement is a federal responsibility.
   

4. York and Lancaster County Schools Claim Dozens of Palmetto Gold and Silver Awards in Statewide Recognition (wrhi.com) — York County families can celebrate as 36 local campuses across Clover, Fort Mill, Rock Hill, and other districts earn Palmetto Gold and Silver awards for strong student achievement and progress. Fort Mill leads the pack with 17 honored schools, while Clover, Rock Hill, and Lancaster County also bring home impressive recognition from the state Department of Education.
