• Temporary Road Closures Scheduled on U.S. Highway 16A and S.D. Highway 244 for Mount Rushmore Fireworks Event (einpresswire.com) — If you drive US 16A or S.D. 244 near Custer, expect full closures from late July 2 through late July 3 for the ticketed Freedom 250 fireworks event at Mount Rushmore. Access from Keystone will be blocked, though some routes stay open from other directions, and only pre-sale ticket holders can attend before the monument reopens July 4.
   

• USDA Expands Drought Recovery Help in South Dakota (southdakotaagconnection.com) — Farmers and ranchers in Custer County are now eligible for USDA emergency loans after the county was designated a drought disaster area. Local producers can use this aid to replace equipment, buy livestock, or refinance certain debts, but must apply through their Farm Service Agency office before the February 1, 2027 deadline.
   

• Rosebud Sioux Tribe to relocate bison involved in fatal Custer State Park incident (kotatv.com) — A bison involved in the recent fatal incident at Custer State Park will be spared and moved to a secure, non-public location under the care of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe. Tribal officials say the animal was acting on natural instincts and emphasize both cultural responsibility and public safety, while offering condolences to the victim’s family and thanking Custer State Park staff for cooperation.
