1. Sioux Falls Man Sentenced to 33 Months in Federal Prison for Conducting a Large-Scale Federal Income Tax Fraud Scheme (justice.gov) — A Sioux Falls tax preparer has been sentenced to 33 months in federal prison for preparing hundreds of fraudulent returns for local clients through his business, ACU Tax Services. Prosecutors say he falsely boosted deductions to secure larger refunds, causing more than $540,000 in tax losses and now owes restitution plus long-term supervised release.
   

2. Third suspect pleads guilty in 2025 homicide in Sioux Falls park (siouxfallslive.com) — A third suspect has pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter in connection with a 2025 robbery-turned-homicide at Sioux Falls' Cherry Rock Park. Prosecutors say four people were involved in the assault that led to Thomas Fernandez's death, with three now admitting guilt and the fourth facing trial in January.
   

3. ELNEC (End Of Life Nursing Education Consortium Training) Training (sanfordhealth.org) — Nurses and other clinicians in Sioux Falls can attend ELNEC end-of-life care training at Sanford Health's Cancer Center, 1309 W 17th Street, earning 7.25 ANCC contact hours. The course uses lectures and case studies to improve care for patients with life-limiting illnesses and their families, and detailed parking and building directions make it easy to find the Carlson Conference Room.
   

4. New home for healthcare (sdsucollegian.com) — Sioux Falls now has a major new SDSU Metro Center at 33rd and Minnesota, consolidating nursing, pharmacy, respiratory care, lab science and public health programs under one roof. The 44,000-square-foot facility, gifted by Avera and renovated with $19 million in donations, will train hundreds of healthcare students each year and sits between the city's major hospital systems for easy clinical access.
   

5. Midwest Food Bank Plans Sioux Falls Facility to Expand Food Access for Tri-State Area (kiwaradio.com) — Midwest Food Bank plans to open a permanent distribution center in Sioux Falls, which would become its 11th U.S. facility and a hub for the tri-state region. The new site will expand free food support to partner nonprofits while relying heavily on local volunteers, donations, and new agency partnerships as planning and site selection move forward.
