Both undergraduate and domestic graduate applicants can skip the usual fees, helping local families save money and lowering barriers for those considering multiple colleges.
   

2. Business owners and residents excited for reopening of Walnut Street Bridge (newschannel9.com) — Chattanooga's Walnut Street Bridge will finally reopen on Saturday, October 3, after an 18‑month renovation that ran slightly late and over budget. Residents and Northshore businesses are eager for the restored pedestrian link between Northshore and Southside, and the city is planning a noon‑to‑3 p.m. grand reopening with a ceremonial walk, live entertainment, and family activities.
   

3. Meet the eight featured speakers for TedxChattanooga 2026 (timesfreepress.com) — Chattanooga residents can look ahead to the Nov. 12 TEDxChattanooga event at the Chattanooga Theatre Centre, built around the theme "Unfinished" and featuring eight speakers with strong local ties. From a folk-music archivist and nonprofit leaders to an AI CEO and content creator, each will share personal stories and ideas about how everyday people can shape the city's future.
   

4. Chattanooga's Enormous Aquarium Was Crowned One Of America's Best-And One Ticket Gets Kids Two Buildings (takingthekids.com) — Right on Chattanooga's riverfront, the Tennessee Aquarium's twin glass peaks offer locals and visitors two full buildings of river and ocean exhibits on a single ticket. The nationally recognized attraction highlights freshwater habitats, penguins, otters, butterflies, touch tanks, and daily programs, with practical tips on hours, ticket prices, parking, and how long to plan for a visit downtown.
   

5. Chattanooga Times Free Press new owners continue to shrink the newsroom (knoxnews.com) — Chattanooga's primary newspaper, the Times Free Press, is undergoing deep newsroom cuts under new owners Max and Craig Fuller, with most reporters already gone and more layoffs likely. Leaders say they aim to refocus on local coverage, but media experts warn shrinking beats like education and city reporting could leave residents with less watchdog journalism and community news.
