Teaching our children to be responsible is easier than you might think! I remember as a young mom, I found it so much easier to just clean their room, pick up their mess, etc. than to listen to myself ask them over and over again. Come to learn, that it did not help them at all. It only helped me!
When a child understands that they are responsible for their chores, their homework, picking up after them self, etc. it will become habits for them to continue to do these things. Plus, they will feel a sense of accomplishment and pride knowing that they are doing the right thing and making good choices. After all, it's all about choices.
