Kids Book Club

I can't help but wonder how a Kids Book Club would do? Last month I was a vendor at the Nashville Fair Grounds and Author Fest. My neighbor had adult books and talked about how her books would be great in a book club, that sparked my imagination! I mean, why couldn't kids have their own book club? What a great way to introduce your children to books and engage their friends, your classroom or a family gathering to learn, communicate and spend quality time together.

The teacher came out in me and all I could think of was our kindergarten and preschool classrooms. How fun to have a weekly trait to learn about with the kids! You could use for your centers or extra activity to work on. I think it's a great way to open a discussion up on what character means, how to use it, where to use it, what it is and why it's important.

One activity I enjoyed when I was in the class was watching our children learn and grow, especially when the light bulb went on! I was on the Reading Team and did assessments with the students, created special reading materials for our dyslexia student and other strugglers. I've put that knowledge into our books.

After the week is complete and the trait has been internalized, have a Superhero Party! Our Superhero activity book has all nine characters and you can make your own superhero mask or cape to continue to reinforce this character and trait! Kids love the masks and they want to be like the character. Before you know it they will have a favorite! Now build off that, allow them to draw about the trait and how they use it and where. This opens more conversations and builds that foundation of good character. Plus, we have Certificates of Achievement that kids love and this helps to encourage them to continue to be of good character.
