📰 News we're reading

• Prep football notebook: Central's playoff reinstatement request denied (timesfreepress.com) — Central High School in Harrison will remain ineligible for this fall’s football playoffs after the TSSAA Board of Control denied the school’s request to restore postseason eligibility. The ruling stems from Central’s injury-related forfeit in last year’s Class 3A first round, a decision administrators said was driven by safety concerns and travel costs. The meeting also brought a new 35-second shot clock for high school basketball statewide.

• Tennessee teacher workforce fell 10% in two years as shortages persist statewide (newschannel9.com) — Families in Harrison are feeling the effects of Tennessee’s worsening teacher shortage, with more than 2,000 vacancies statewide and disruptions when educators leave midyear. Hamilton County, which includes Harrison, has approved a proposed $700 million budget that sets aside $14 million for staff raises and compensation adjustments after a year with no raises, aiming to improve retention and classroom stability.
