Notice of Public Hearing 2026 UNDC - Memphis Local, Sports, Business & Food News (dailymemphian.com) — Memphis residents should know that EDGE will hold a virtual public meeting and hearing on September 16 to extend the University District–Highland Strip tax increment financing from 20 to 30 years and shift the 3535 Central parcel into a separate TIF. The amendment affects redevelopment near the University of Memphis and keeps maps available for public review downtown by appointment.
   

2. University of Memphis, Ghana end scholarship partnership (actionnews5.com) — The University of Memphis has ended its scholarship partnership with Ghana after the country fell nearly $4 million behind on tuition payments. About 98 students from Ghana, some in the program, now must find new ways to pay before classes start Monday, while the university works to help them avoid dismissal, visa issues, and housing loss.
   

3. Memphis School Worker Accused of Stabbing Delivery Driver Six Times for Being Late (lawenforcementtoday.com) — A Memphis middle school employee has been charged with felony aggravated assault after a delivery driver was reportedly stabbed multiple times with a pen at American Way Middle School. Police say the confrontation began over a late delivery, and the injured driver was taken to a hospital while the staff member was taken into custody.
   

4. Day five of outages: South Memphis woman describes 'nightmare' without power (actionnews5.com) — Thousands of Memphis residents are still without power five days after a major storm, including a South Memphis woman who describes sweltering conditions and difficulty accessing basic resources. As more severe weather threatens, MLGW's CEO says most customers should be restored by tomorrow, though that could change if additional storms move through.
   

5. All shook up (times-georgian.com) — Memphis takes center stage as thousands of fans prepare to gather at Graceland for a candlelight remembrance of Elvis Presley, who died here in 1977. A now-grown fan recalls first hearing that Elvis had died in Memphis as a child, reflecting on the singer's flaws, enduring voice, and lasting impact nearly five decades later.
