• Drivers gain 3 traffic lights off Smyrna's Sam Ridley Pkwy, Jefferson Pike (dnj.com) — Commuters between Smyrna and La Vergne will see three new traffic lights on U.S. 41 fully active by June 12, improving safety near Sam Ridley Parkway and Jefferson Pike. Smyrna and La Vergne officials say the $9 million TDOT project should ease congestion and reduce accidents along this busy stretch many local drivers use every day. 
• Smyrna approves budget during thunderstorm (mainstreetmediatn.com) — Smyrna leaders approved a $67 million 2026-27 budget and kept the property tax rate at 53 cents per $100 of assessed value, even as a thunderstorm knocked out power to Town Hall. Using backup power and texts from first responders, officials coordinated storm response, condemned four damaged properties, and documented downed trees and a collapsed gas station canopy.
• How Siegel won The Daily News Journal All-Sports Trophy for 2026 (dnj.com) — Siegel High captured The Daily News Journal’s 2026 All-Sports Trophy by piling up consistent postseason success across multiple sports. In the final countywide standings, Smyrna High finished with 58 points, trailing Siegel, Blackman, Stewarts Creek and others but still contributing to a competitive Rutherford County sports landscape local fans will recognize.
