Historic Reporter-News site transforms into new city plaza (reporternews.com) — Downtown Abilene now has a new public gathering spot at 101 Cypress Street, where Cypress Plaza has replaced the longtime Abilene Reporter-News building. Built through a public-private partnership with more than $2 million in donations, the green space features pavilions, a lawn, and a shallow pool, and is already open for everyday use and special events.

''This is traumatizing,' Homeowner reports two floods in seven weeks at newly built house (ktxs.com) — An Abilene first-time homebuyer says her newly built house has flooded twice in just seven weeks, leaving her belongings damaged and her confidence in the home badly shaken. She describes digging makeshift drainage channels and repeatedly calling the builder, Sanford Construction, which she says has not responded since the second flood, while she now fears every time heavy rain is forecast.

ANS approves formation of six student sections, one local section (ans.org) — Abilene will host the new Lone Star Local Section of the American Nuclear Society, which will coordinate nuclear-related activities across Texas from its headquarters here. Representatives from Abilene Christian University joined Texas A&M and several nuclear companies to petition for the section, aiming to strengthen education, industry connections, and workforce development in nuclear science statewide.

GALLERY: Abilene's fastest dachshunds race for glory & bragging rights (bigcountryhomepage.com) — Abilene dog lovers packed in despite the heat for the annual Dachshund Races and Rescue Dog Reunion, one of the biggest fundraisers for Rescue the Animals SPCA. With about 160 racing dachshunds, fun contest categories, and hundreds of spectators, the free event celebrated rescue pets and the families who adopted them.
