2026 Sustainable Home &amp; Garden Show — Partnering to Keep the Colorado River Clean
Keep Smithville Beautiful invites the Bastrop County community to the 2026 Sustainable Home &amp; Garden Show on Saturday, October 17, from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM at Railroad Park in Smithville. Now a local tradition since 2011, this free, family-friendly event brings together students, families, local businesses, and environmental experts for a day of hands-on learning and community connection, all centered on this year's theme: protecting the Colorado River watershed, from Smithville all the way to Matagorda Bay and the Texas Gulf Coast.
The show features two signature student initiatives: the Plastic Collection Challenge, where Smithville ISD students compete to collect and recycle plastic bottles before they reach the river; the Recycled Art Contest, where students turn discarded materials into original works of art; and the Sustainable Living Education Forum, with expert-led exhibits and hands-on demos on native plants, water conservation, and sustainable home and garden practices for the whole family, including hands-on activities for kids.&nbsp;
This year's goals include 500+ student participants, 1,000+ community members reached, 5,000+ plastic bottles diverted from local waterways, and 50+ business and community partners. The event is free to attend, and local businesses and organizations are invited to get involved as sponsors, vendors, exhibitors, or volunteers.
