Man arrested after Jeep rear-ends Conroe ISD bus carrying 16 students (houstonchronicle.com) — A Conroe ISD school bus carrying 16 students was rear-ended by a Jeep near Knob Hollow and Jonquil Pathway, prompting a law-enforcement search and Secure Mode at nearby Irons Junior High. One man was arrested and a gun recovered, and officials say all students escaped serious injury, with only two evaluated for minor issues at the scene. 
2. Texas Veterans Commission to present more than $6.3 million in grants to 27 veteran service organizations on August 27 Katy Christian Ministries among recipients (katytimes.com) — More than $6.3 million in veteran-support grants will be presented at Honor Cafe on North Thompson Street in downtown Conroe, bringing new resources for financial aid, counseling, housing, and legal help to area veterans. The Texas Veterans Commission's event highlights funding for Montgomery County and other regional groups, with money largely coming from Texas Lottery veteran-designated games.
3. Bond projects near completion in Conroe, Montgomery, Willis ISDs (communityimpact.com) — Major Conroe ISD bond projects are transforming local schools, with new campuses, agriculture facilities, and major Conroe High renovations either opening this August or wrapping up by 2027. Residents can expect added classroom space, upgraded fine arts and athletic areas, and expanded career and technical education facilities across Conroe, Spring, and The Woodlands that directly address overcrowding and growth.
4. Conroe holds off on $4 residential stormwater fee, seeks closer look at drainage needs (communityimpact.com) — Conroe leaders have paused a proposed $4 monthly stormwater fee that would have appeared on residents' utility bills while they gather more details on drainage needs and problem spots. Council members questioned adding another recurring charge, how it would interact with impact fees, and what projects—like creek rehabilitation and culvert upgrades—might ultimately be funded across the city.
5. Governor Abbott Appoints Hansen To 523rd Judicial District In Montgomery County (texas.gov) — A Conroe resident, prosecutor Donna Hansen, has been appointed by Gov. Greg Abbott to serve as judge of the new 523rd Judicial District Court in Montgomery County starting September 1, 2026. Hansen, a longtime Montgomery County assistant district attorney active in child-safety organizations, will serve through the end of 2028 unless a successor is elected earlier.
