It will likely be a hot and humid Fourth of July holiday weekend in North Texas, with highs ranging from the mid 90s to near 101 and heat index values around 100-108.

The National Weather Service Fort Worth/Dallas issued a bulletin about the forecast on Friday morning.

According to the forecast, dry weather is expected to prevail at this time. However, residents should continue to check back for updates.

Anyone planning to spend time outdoors this weekend should make sure to prepare for the heat.

Heat preparation tips:

• Drink plenty of water and avoid alcohol. Consider beverages with electrolytes.
• Apply sunscreen (an SPF 30 or higher) every two hours.
• Wear lightweight, loose-fitting, and light-colored clothing.
• Take regular breaks in the shade or in a room with A/C.

According to the United States Drought Monitor National Drought Summary from June 23, Tropical Storm Arthur briefly formed near the middle Texas coast last week before "wobbling" inland near Galveston.

However, a precursor low-pressure system delivered heavy rain in parts of southern Texas, followed by a post-tropical deluge from the central Gulf Coast region into the lower Southeast. Totals of 4-8 inches or more were common across the Deep South.

Although flash flooding and lowland flooding occurred, overall impacts were muted by the previous drought conditions that previously spanned much of the South.
