Severe Weather Potential for North Texas on Mother's Day

Mother's Day weekend will come along with a severe weather threat to North Texas.

The National Weather Service Fort Worth/Dallas issued a bulletin about the potential storm activity on Friday afternoon. According to the alert, isolated storms are possible in Brazos Valley and East Texas on Saturday afternoon.

A decaying complex of storms may approach the Red River Saturday night, but at this time the best coverage of storms and potential for severe weather is expected to remain north of the area.

That could change on Sunday. Another cold front will approach the region with widespread showers and storms developing across portions of North and Central Texas in the afternoon and evening. There will be a threat for a few strong to severe storms with large hail and damaging winds.

Locally heavy rain will also be a threat with a few spots potentially getting 2-3 inches. Forecast details will continue to be adjusted as new data arrives. As always, residents should stay updated on the forecast as the weekend continues, especially if they have Mother's Day plans.

Next week, temperatures are expected to start out mild and then warm well above normal into the upper 80s and 90s by Wednesday. Residents should expect mostly dry conditions for much of this week with little to no rain chances in the forecast.

Breezy conditions are expected in the afternoon on Thursday and Friday, with wind gusts of up to around 25 mph.
