Storm Chances Returning to North Texas Midweek

There will be a storm chances in the North Texas region through midweek as a weakening storm complex moves southeastward out of Oklahoma.

The National Weather Service Fort Worth/Dallas issued a bulletin about the forecast on Monday afternoon.

According to the forecast, a few storms may be strong, with gusty winds, frequent lightning, heavy rainfall, and localized flooding possible.

Otherwise, residents can expect hot and humid conditions each afternoon. Afternoon highs will be in the 90s to just above 100, and heat index values will be near or above 100 degrees each day.

Residents, particularly those with outdoor plans, should stay weather aware. Stay well hydrated and wear sun protection if possible.

Extremely hot and humid weather makes it difficult for the human body to stay cool. Heat related illness happens when the body gets too hot too quickly to cool itself effectively, or when too much fluid or salt is lost through dehydration.

Symptoms of heat exhaustion include dizziness, thirst, heavy sweating, nausea, and weakness. If left untreated, the condition can lead to heat stroke, which is characterized by confusion, dizziness, and the victim becoming unconscious.

Heat stroke can result in death or permanent disability if emergency treatment is not received. That's why it's so important to stay aware when spending time outdoors in the heat.

If a person is exhibiting signs of heat exhaustion, it's important to get them to a cooler environment immediately. Apply cool, wet cloths to the person and offer them water. If the person vomits or symptoms last more than 1 hour, seek immediate medical attention.

If a person is exhibiting signs of heat stroke, which can also include slurred speech and rapid pulse, call 911 and get that person to a hospital immediately. Heat stroke is a severe medical emergency and delay can be fatal.
