1. Nonprofits step in as Austin ISD budget cuts squeeze schools (communityimpact.com) — Austin ISD families face deep budget cuts this school year, and two Austin-based nonprofits are stepping in with hundreds of thousands of dollars to keep counselors, support staff, and classroom projects afloat. Their grants are helping campuses hit by closures, consolidations, and literacy challenges, but leaders stress philanthropy can't replace stable public school funding in Austin.

2. As Austin sees funding for post-foster care housing, other regions face hurdles (spectrumlocalnews.com) — Austin has approved a $500,000 matching grant to fund supportive services for young people using Foster‑to‑Youth Independence housing vouchers, aiming to reduce homelessness among former foster youth. With 127 active vouchers in the city, the one‑time funding—championed by Council Member Ryan Alter—could become a model for other Texas regions still struggling to finance similar services.

3. Air conditioning issues prompt early release at Anderson High School (kvue.com) — Anderson High School in Austin sent students and staff home at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday after its main HVAC chiller failed, leaving much of the building in the low to mid-80s. Austin ISD crews and contractors installed a large rental chiller overnight to restore cooling, while officials promised families an update on whether normal operations could resume Wednesday.

4. 'Permanent recognition of our history': Austin unveils LGBTQ+ historical marker downtown (thedailytexan.com) — Downtown Austin now features a permanent LGBTQ+ historical marker at Fourth and Colorado, near Bettie Naylor Street, honoring the city's queer history and community spaces. Installed after the state ordered rainbow crosswalks removed, the marker was funded through Austin's Historic Preservation Fund and is intended as the first of several planned public queer spaces across the city.

5. Free program prepares Austin students for booming semiconductor industry (kvue.com) — Austin residents can now tap a free 14‑week Austin Community College and Merit America program that's already helping graduates land semiconductor and advanced manufacturing jobs with local employers like NXP and Tesla. With flexible online coursework and hands‑on labs, the training is tailored for working adults and aims to feed Central Texas' rapidly growing chip industry with homegrown talent.
