Rising diesel prices impacting school districts (kxan.com) — Rising diesel prices are straining school transportation budgets, with Austin ISD projecting about a $1.9 million jump in fuel costs this year and nearby Hays CISD also facing major overruns. Local districts say diesel has more than doubled per gallon, forcing them to stretch already tight budgets while they wait to see if global energy pressures ease.
   

2. Austin city council expanding places required to carry life-saving medical device (kxan.com) — Austin City Council is moving forward on a plan to require more automated external defibrillators in local public spaces and businesses, aiming to boost survival rates from cardiac arrest. The city manager must draft a detailed ordinance by June 2027, including cost and equity analyses, which could eventually mean more AEDs and CPR training in the places you visit every day.
   

3. TxDOT completes Oak Hill Parkway Project (fox7austin.com) — TxDOT has officially completed the long-awaited Oak Hill Parkway Project, transforming the notorious "Y" where U.S. 290 and SH 71 meet into a smoother, higher-capacity route. The $731 million upgrade adds new main lanes, frontage roads, bridges, and flyovers, promising faster, less congested commutes for Southwest Austin drivers and those traveling between the city and nearby communities.
   

4. Holmes to Transition (time.news) — Elizabeth Holmes is scheduled to be moved in August 2027 to the Austin Transitional Center, a halfway house near Austin, giving her more freedom while she serves the remainder of her fraud sentence. The transfer, tied to good-conduct credits, has angered some investors who say she has paid little restitution, even as federal officials frame halfway houses as part of rehabilitation.
   

5. Talarico talks immigration in Austin, does not address ICE shooting at event (cbsaustin.com) — An ICE agent's shooting of a Venezuelan man in North Austin is shaping the tone of Texas' U.S. Senate race, even as candidate James Talarico avoided the incident at a Texas Tribune Festival talk in town. He instead outlined a vision balancing border security with a more welcoming immigration system, while analysts say the fallout may energize Democrats more than Republicans.
