Countywide, Hays is experiencing nearly 10% overall value growth driven by commercial and multifamily projects, and residents have until mid-May to protest their appraisals.

Dripping Springs City Council approves rate adjustment on trash, recycling (haysfreepress.com) — If you live or run a business inside Dripping Springs city limits, expect your Texas Disposal Systems trash and optional recycling bill to rise starting July 1. Dripping Springs Council OKs policy on political party participation, more for 2026 Founders Day (haysfreepress.com) — Dripping Springs City Council has approved new rules limiting political party booths and defining when officials can campaign during the 2026 Founders Day Festival, aiming to keep things fair with very limited vendor space. The policy caps political booths at two party-run spaces, restricts parade campaigning to registered participants, and clarifies when council members are acting as private citizens versus in an official capacity.
   

4. Track team competes in District 26-6A meet (drippingspringsnews.com) — Dripping Springs High School’s track teams finished fourth in the tough District 26-6A meet at Burger Stadium, with Lake Travis and Westlake leading the standings. Local athletes still posted strong showings, including event wins in pole vault and shot put and several top-four finishes that advance to the Area meet.
   

5. Hill Country Rescue & Recovery to launch microchip scanning stations in Hays County (haysfreepress.com) — A Hays County nonprofit is rolling out community microchip scanning stations that could make it much easier for Dripping Springs residents to reunite with lost pets without overloading local shelters. Inspired by a 2025 search for a missing Dripping Springs dog, Hill Country Rescue & Recovery is fundraising and partnering with fire stations and local businesses to install about 20 scanners starting in May.
